YES! I FINALLY GOT TO GO THIS YEAR! I went to the Shinsengumi Festival! I always missed it since it was usually held during Golden Week and I was out of Tokyo, but this year, it was held twice and not on Golden Week! YAY!

Due to stress, I went on a serious journey to Sendai...and that is a story for later. Date Masamune is DEFINITELY A MAN worthy of praise and worship, but right now, I'm gonna go on about my Okita Souji obsession.

It makes me sad because he is the guy who directed Macross:  Ai Oboeteimasuka.

Macross was my first anime and the one my father shared with me when I was little.  My parents took me to a former anime shop in downtown LA to look for Macross 7 manga and I even asked them to go to a faraway place years later to get the movie.  I even bought the first edition remastered series when it came out.

And that song has always been with me to the point I went to Anime Expo to meet Mari Iijima and now I can play that on the piano.  It is very special for me.

No wonder...on Tuesday, I was looking at Valkyries in a toy shop.

Wow, is it that time of the year already?

Dear Minna-san,

It’s been a long while since I’ve updated. I have been doing a lot of traveling. In fact, I went to Hokkaido for ‘Umi no hi/Marine Day’ which was named when the Meiji Emperor came to visit Hakodate, if I remember correctly. (I hope I can upload the other trips later on this year!)

The summer went by really fast and I ended up taking some fitting classes on how to tie an obi and put a yukata on. I also took more extra katana classes to improve.
The weather was terrible because it was so humid that it made me dizzy and I fainted once, but the weather is now like in San Francisco. There are a lot of dry and cloudy days.

I decided not to take the Japanese test and focus on other things like finish reading some books and doing a writing project with my friend because we are history nerds.

It’s a funny thing. You find out that life is all about saying ‘yes’ and blocking off a thousand ‘no’s and you must accept that those doors won’t open again. I think that’s what I learned this year, especially after the earthquake.

I think I wanna go to Sendai soon. Date Masamune, you are so hot…but I love you first Souji! Oh, Shinsengumi…right…going back to why I went to Hokkaido. I am a Shinsengumi/Souji/Hijikata freak…

Dear Everyone,

Hello!
It’s been a long while. After the earthquake, my schedules for work changed a little and then I had to rearrange my piano, voice, and katana lessons. I’ve been trying to hang out with some people and enjoy through the tight schedule.
And I moved to a new place so now I have roommates again and they are just wonderful. We even have a spitz who is so cute and I’ve never had a pet before, but she feels like one of the children that I teach.

Needless to say, despite dying from the extreme heat and ‘eco-friendly’ electricity usage, I’m surviving!

I had meant to upload these images for a while so I hope you enjoy them!

Dear Minna-san,

Thank you for caring!!! We in Tokyo still felt it a lot. It's crazy. The trains have completely closed so I walked home for about 3 hours, but it's 5 hours and 30 minutes later but there are many tremors. Please pray for us.

Today, I went to see the new Ashita no Joe movie.

It's a funny thing because I was looking for Utada's new cd, which was sold out in almost every place around me last December. Then, I found it and really loved the song "Show Me Love" the best on the independent album. I found out it was the theme for Ashita no Joe's Live Action film. While transliterating the song, I stumbled upon the info that Yamapi was Joe.

So, I went to see it.
